  1. If you like to drink, eat, and shop cruises are for you. You can do the same thing literally anywhere else except you can leave whenever your want to. Not on a boat.

  2. We cruised the southern Caribbean sailing from San Juan. Flew in from Tampa the day before the cruise and had a great time in old San Juan, stayed in a Marriott, but would definitely go for an AirbnB next time (more local flavor, not a dig at Marriott). Easy Uber from the hotel to the ship, and from the ship to the airport for the return. Fantastic cruise on Royal Caribbean.

  3. This is a blessing to find this video, I just left the travel agency & signed up for a Caribbean cruise for next Year in October and I'm so excited! It's my first cruise, anyways this is so informative. THANK YOU

  4. Top tip : avoid Caribbean cruises at all costs. For less money, plan your own trip and have some personal space. I cannot imagine spending a week with 4999 others.

  5. The best thing about cruises is that if youre under 25, youre the youngest passenger there. And the admiring glances you will get from 75 year olds would make you feel like the most beautiful person on the planet, even if on land youre not

  6. I was 3 times on cruise but on small 12 persons catamaran (usually 10 people on board for better comfort). I could jump into water straight from deck and have reefs with fish exactly under the hull – I will never choose such big ship.

  7. If I were going to the Caribbean, then I would fly out, and take local excursions.
No point in visiting a place and going to tourist traps, as they don't give you anything of the culture.
I would prefer local firms so that I can experiment the real life..and away from 100s or 1000s of people.

  8. Damn you have been on too many cruise ships! Get a life. I’ve done two and will never go on another. Just bored me to death. So overrated.

  9. Last month we cruised with Royal Caribbean, and one of the ports was Labadee, Haiti. It's an RC-owned resort. I was torn about visiting because I had been to Haiti three other times on humanitarian work, and I knew that the 'real' Haiti is nothing like Labadee. However, RC mentioned that all of the local Haitian craftsman and souvenir shops are independent and keep the money they earn. They are not paid through RC, so the dollars spent stay with the local economy. Also, RC has built a school, a medical facility and more to support the local economy. So that is what they SAID, and the evidence did seem to bear it out. I hope it was true and I hope cruise lines as a whole become smarter about how they interact with their ports of call. But I still felt conflicted the whole day. It felt like being in a Disney version of Haiti – absolutely gorgeous and pristine, which is to say the opposite of much of Haiti. And I truly love Haiti and its people, but the reality is what it is.

  10. I would say it can go both ways with excursions: the local may rip you off and fail to get you back onto the ship (at which point you're screwed) … or they can provide you the best experience you'll ever have and give you a great impression of the country. Each person also has a different risk tolerance and personal connections with the locals. I, for one, just don't like how cruise companies are charging so much (almost like 2-3 days worth of cruising) for something that lasts just a couple of hours and takes you to the most touristy and inauthentic places you can imagine.

  11. Demand is why these ships are so large. Operating costs are why small cruise ships are a thing of the past. Balcony cabins are at a premium and generate huge profits. This is also why these ships are so large. I don't care how many cruises you have been on, you do not understand the business.

  12. We will find a taxi
    Negotiate a price
And request a tour they would take their family on
Usually we end up at locations with few tourists
Or a beach all to ourselves
and a nice lunch at a local stop

  13. I am curious. I usually book through princess direct and haven’t cruised for a couple of years. Usually it was very easy to select my cabin. Now it seems they want you to let them pick it and you just pick the category. Have you found this? Is this part of their scam to have you bid for an upgrade? We love Princess, but this is making me rethink going through them.

  14. NCL Cruise Line SUCKS…. DO NOT take any of their cruises. The charge extra for everything, constantly change and cancel ports of call, make sea days out of ports of call without compensation, Hire crew with no experience, Cancel shows. The free perks are not worth it and it is much better to book your cruise with other cruise lines like Celebrity, RCCL or Holland America.

  15. Looking for recommendations.I would like to take my 65 year-old mother on a cruise. I think she would be interested in shows like they perform in Las Vegas and a nice Beach for our destination any recommendations for like a 5-day Cruise at a reasonable price.

  16. The large ships 4 to5 thousand passengers have turned me off to cruising. We have done quite a few cruises on two different lines. But due to the truly big ships, we have quit.
